Using Trade Wizards with Shipping Solutions Export Documentation and Compliance Software

If you've visited the Shipping Solutions website, you may have noticed a link at the top of the screen called Trade Compliance Wizards.

The Trade Wizards are five online tools for importers and exporters: Restricted Party Screening, Export Controls, Import Controls, Landed Cost Calculator, and Product Classification.

You may find one or more of these tools beneficial as an add-on to your Shipping Solutions desktop software.

For Shipping Solutions Professional Users

If you use Shipping Solutions Professional or Shipping Solutions Enterprise and have a current Annual Maintenance Program (AMP) subscription, you already have access to several of the tools. Restricted Party Screening and Export Controls are available through the Shipping Solutions Export Compliance Module, which you access by clicking the Compliance button on the EZ Start screen. There are a couple Trade Wizard add-ons, however, that might be useful.

The Restricted Party Screening Wizard allows you to screen all the parties in your shipment against the government’s restricted parties lists. When you run that screening through the Shipping Solutions software, the Trade Wizard pulls the information from the Contacts screen on EZ Start, so you don't have to reenter their names and addresses.

There may be times, however, when you want to run a screening outside the Shipping Solutions Professional software. For example, your sales people or customer service representatives may want to run screenings of potential customers or distributors before you accept an order and enter them into the Shipping Solutions software. Current AMP subscribers can add this option for only $600 per year instead of the normal $1,200 annual fee.

In addition, all Shipping Solutions users may benefit from the Product Classification Wizard. This Trade Wizard provides an easy interface for helping you determine your products’ correct Schedule B, HTS and ECCN codes, which you need to know in order to properly complete your export forms and file your export information through the Automated Export System (AES).

For Shipping Solutions Classic Users

While Shipping Solutions Classic users do not have access to the Export Compliance Module, almost all the functionality can be added by purchasing subscriptions to the Trade Wizards.

The Restricted Party Screening Wizard allows you to screen the parties in your shipments against the government’s restricted parties lists rather than manually running a search against the dozens of government lists that you can find online.

The Export Controls Wizard helps you determine if you need an export license for your shipment based on your Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) and the country to which you are shipping. The Product Classification Wizard helps you determine your products’ correct Schedule B, HTS and ECCN codes. You can subscribe to the Trade Wizards for $1,300 per year per Wizard.

If You’re Also an Importer

There are two Trade Wizards specifically for importers. The Import Controls Wizard helps you determine if there are any import licenses or permits required, if there are absolute or tariff rate quotas, and if there are any anti-dumping or countervailing duties. The Landed Cost Calculator helps you determine an accurate estimate of the cost of your products by calculating the import duties, VAT, and excise taxes, and other government fees that will be added to the cost of your goods. You can compare the landed costs of items sourced in various countries or domestically.
