About the USMCA Certificate of Origin

On July 1, 2020, the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) replaced NAFTA as the free trade agreement between the three countries. Under USMCA, qualifying products are exempt from tariffs and quotas when exported to Mexico and Canada. To claim this preferential duty rate, you must determine if your goods qualify under the USMCA Rules of Origin.

The USMCA Certificate of Origin:

  • Can be completed by the exporter, producer or importer. The Certificate of Origin must indicate which party is completing the form.
  • Must be in the possession of the importer at the time the declaration is made to customs.
  • Can be prepared for a single product on a one-time shipment or for multiple shipments of identical items for a period of up to one year (Blanket Certificate).
For Canadian exporters, the free trade agreement is referred to as Canada–United States–Mexico Agreement (CUSMA). Download the English- or French-language version of the CUSMCA Certificate.
For Mexican exporters, the free trade agreement is referred to as Tratado entre México, Estados Unidos y Canadá (T-MEC). Download the Spanish-language version of the T-MEC Certificate.
