Data Exchange Manager Changes in Shipping Solutions Export Software Version 9.14

Shipping Solutions Professional Data Exchange ManagerShipping Solutions Professional version 9.14 includes several new features for the Data Exchange Manager (DXM) when using the text file and ODBC methods to import data from your accounting, order-entry or ERP system.

In addition, if you are already using the DXM with the text-file method, there is a simple step you need to do after upgrading to 9.14.

DXM Using the Text File Method—Version 9.14 Update

If you have an active DXM project using the text-file method in a version prior to 9.14, you will need to re save your mapping after you upgrade and before you run the DXM. You do not need to redo your mapping, you simply need to open each mapping table and save it.

Go to the Admin tab=>Setup Data Exchange Manager screen. Choose your project and click Edit. Click Mapping. In the Table to Map drop-down list, select Contacts. Click Save. Choose Header-Invoice. Click Save. Continue down the list until you have saved all six tables. Click Close. Save and Close your DXM project. Your DXM project is now ready to run. If you have other users that run the DXM, you will need to save the mapping tables on their PCs as well.

If you have a 32-bit computer, you may have trouble running the DXM even after saving your mapping tables. Call Shipping Solutions  at (651) 905-1727, and we will provide you with the 32-bit files that you will need.

DXM Using the Text File Method—Version 9.14 Enhancements

In Shipping Solutions Professional version 9.14, you now have the opportunity to enter default values for all fields. For example, if all of your items are EAR99, you could enter that as the default value for ECCN Number, and EAR99 will fill in for every line item you pull into Shipping Solutions using the DXM. Every field that can be pulled in via the DXM can use a default value instead.

New fields are available for mapping in version 9.14. You can now map your Forwarding Agent and Freight Location Company names and addresses. You can also map to the NAFTA Producer and Importer Email fields as well as the Generic Certificate of Origin Date. These new fields are also available when using the DXM with the XML file method.

Only new projects will have the additional fields. You can print out your mapping for an existing DXM project, create a new project, and quickly remap the new project so you can take advantage of the new fields.

DXM Using the ODBC Method—Version 9.14 Enhancements

A few enhancements were made to the DXM using the ODBC method. While default values were always part of the ODBC method, they did not fill in for every line item in a shipment. That has now been fixed.

You can now connect via ODBC to a data source that requires a user name and password to login. Prior to version 9.14, the ODBC connection was required to use Windows authentication only.

The ODBC method has been enhanced so that you can pull in all contact types. In addition, you can now map to Shipment Number, Search Tag and the Generic Certificate of Origin Date fields.
