How to Complete a Shipper's Letter of Instruction (video)

Lisa Nemer | September 5, 2018 | Shipping Solutions: Screen By Screen, Export Forms

Shipping Solutions export documentation and compliance software includes two types of Shipper's Letters of Instruction (SLI).

One type of SLI is used as a cover letter to convey specific instructions from the exporter to the agent, usually an international freight forwarder. The second type of SLI is used to provide to your freight forwarder all the information needed to file your Electronic Export Information (EEI) with AESDirect.

This video shows you how to create both types of SLIs in Shipping Solutions.

The Canada Customs Invoice Screen in Shipping Solutions Export Software

Lisa Nemer | April 18, 2017 | Shipping Solutions News & Tips, Shipping Solutions: Screen By Screen

In my continuing series on the Shipping Solutions export software EZ Start screens, today I discuss the Canada Customs Invoice screen. Commercial shipments to Canada, regardless of mode of transport, which are valued at over $2,500 (Canadian funds), are not classified under HTUSA Chapter 9810 (Importations of religious, educational, scientific and other institutions), and are subject to duties and sales taxes, should be accompanied by a Canada Customs Invoice (CCI).

The invoice must contain all the information currently required by Canada Customs Regulations and can be prepared either by the exporter or importer or their agents, and it can be done so easily by using Shipping Solutions export software.

In my continuing series on the Shipping Solutions EZ Start screens, I have to admit, I was happy to get to the screen called Generic Certificate of Origin. It's a small screen with only a few data fields. How hard can it be to explain?

The truth is, however, understanding the Generic Certificate of Origin is more complicated than it might seem.

The NAFTA Screen in Shipping Solutions Export Software

Lisa Nemer | March 21, 2017 | Shipping Solutions News & Tips, Shipping Solutions: Screen By Screen, Free Trade Agreements

Today in my continuing series on the Shipping Solutions EZ Start screens, I describe the NAFTA/Other Free Trade Agreements (FTA) screen.

The United States has many FTAs with different countries and regions of the world. Some have specific certificates of origin that are required, and some only require a statement verifying origin. But in most cases, the FTAs are based on the granddaddy of FTAs, which is the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). NAFTA covers over $1 trillion in annual trade between the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The EZ Start Packing List Screen in Shipping Solutions Export Software

Lisa Nemer | February 14, 2017 | Shipping Solutions News & Tips, Shipping Solutions: Screen By Screen

Lately I’ve been using my blog posts to explain each screen on the EZ Start tab of Shipping Solutions export documentation and compliance software. This week we unpack the Packing List screen!

The Packing List screen is a little different than the other Shipping Solutions EZ Start screens because it isn’t just a place to enter data that will appear on the document. The Packing List screen actually allows (aka requires) you to organize your shipment into containers just like they will be physically packed in the warehouse. It gives you maximum flexibility to get your Packing List to look exactly the way you want it to look.

Lisa Nemer | February 7, 2017 | Shipping Solutions News & Tips, Shipping Solutions: Screen By Screen

This week I finish my discussion of the EEI-Electronic Export Information data-entry screen in the Shipping Solutions export documentation and compliance software. I discussed the top section of the screen in last week's blog post, and today we will review the bottom half of the EEI screen, which is found on the EZ Start tab.

The bottom half of the screen can best be described as a hodge-podge of fields that will be used to convey information to your forwarder so that they can file through AESDirect for you or that will be used to convey to your carrier that you have already done the filing yourself.

The Invoices Screen in Shipping Solutions Export Software—Part 2

Lisa Nemer | December 13, 2016 | Shipping Solutions News & Tips, Shipping Solutions: Screen By Screen

In a previous post I started a discussion of the Invoices-Proforma/Commerical screen on the EZ Start tab. It’s an important screen because every export shipment requires an invoice, and because the data on the Invoices screen appears on other documents as well.

The screen is divided into three sections. Part 1 talked about the first and second sections of the Invoices screen. Today we delve into the bottom third of the screen that includes 20 fields that appear on five different documents. All of these fields appear on the Commercial and Proforma invoices as well as others where noted.

The next screen on my list is the Invoices-Proforma/Commerical screen on the EZ Start tab. When talking to people about Shipping Solutions, I tell them that the first four screens on the EZ Start tab are the most important. I covered the Contacts, Products and Carriers and Ports screens in previous posts. The fourth screen is the Invoices screen, and it’s important because every export shipment requires an invoice. But, it’s also important because the data on the Invoices screen appears on other documents as well.
